The Allegri Singers are gearing up for an exciting and ambitious year in 2026, with a program that celebrates both community and artistry. Here’s what’s on the horizon.

A Season of Celebration Begins

The year will kick off with a special performance alongside the Orange Male Voice Choir and the Australian Rugby Choir. On Saturday, March 21, these three groups will come together for a concert at All Saints’ Cathedral in Bathurst, as part of the Orange choir’s centenary celebrations. This collaborative event promises to be a wonderful showcase of choral excellence, and will be followed by a couple of lighter concerts at venues still to be announced. It’s a great way to get the year off to a festive start.

Christmas with Bach: A Major Undertaking

The true centrepiece of the 2026 calendar, however, will be “Christmas with Bach”—an all-Bach concert that represents one of the most ambitious projects the Allegri Singers have undertaken.

This program will feature a selection of cantatas and solo pieces from Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, alongside other works for chorus and organ. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio is a masterwork comprising six cantatas written to celebrate the Christmas season, and they showcase some of the most beautiful and spiritually profound music in the choral repertoire. The cantatas weave together biblical narratives, chorales, and instrumental interludes to create an immersive musical journey through the Christmas story. By combining these sacred works with other carefully chosen pieces, the Allegri Singers will create an evening of genuine festive magic—one that appeals equally to Bach devotees and those discovering this remarkable music for the first time.

This will be a major undertaking. The performance demands a high degree of musical expertise from all participants—the chorus, orchestra, and soloists—as well as the Musical Director. It’s the kind of project that pushes an ensemble to new heights and celebrates what can be achieved through dedicated preparation and artistic vision.

Specific dates and venues for “Christmas with Bach” will be announced soon, so watch this space.

A Call to New Voices

If you thought Handel’s “Messiah” was magnificent, make sure you don’t miss “Christmas with Bach”—this is going to be something truly special.

The Allegri Singers are always on the lookout for new members to join our community. There are no formal auditions required, though an ability to sing in tune is essential, and a commitment to reading music and attending regular rehearsals prior to performances is important. The choir rehearses every Tuesday evening during school terms, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, at the Walsham Hall, located next to All Saints’ Cathedral in Bathurst.

If you’re interested in joining a welcoming, inclusive group of singers committed to exploring beautiful music, get in touch via our website. We’d love to hear from you.
