150 Year Pipe Organ Celebration Concert at Bathurst Uniting Church

Sunday, March 10 will see a memorable meeting of music makers, when distinguished organist Christopher Wrench, gives a recital on the church’s wonderful pipe organ, to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of its installation. The pipe organ was built in 1874 by William Davidson, and is one of only two of the maker’s instruments in New South Wales to survive in its original form. It underwent a thorough and faithful restoration in 2005, thanks to the efforts of the Organ Historical Trust of Australia, and the Heritage Council.

The Bathurst Uniting Church in collaboration with the Allegri Singers of Bathurst, will present this concert as the inaugural item in a year of events commemorating the historic organ, and promoting organ music in general, while encouraging the development of students of the instrument.

Christopher Wrench is a graduate of the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, and attended the Vienna Conservatorium for his post-graduate studies.  Since then he has been the recipient of numerous Australian and international awards, and regularly gives recitals throughout Australia and Europe. He has held posts as director of music, and church organist in numerous Australian and European churches. He is currently Director of Music at Christchurch in St.Lucia,  Brisbane, where he was appointed in 2013.

Bathurst’s Allegri Singers and the Orange Regional Conservatorium Chamber Choir will join Christopher in a program of organ music and choral music specially arranged for organ accompaniment.

This is an opportunity not only for Bathurst residents, but lovers of fine music throughout the region, to hear some of the best loved organ music, played by one of Australia’s most accomplished exponents of the instrument.

Allegri Singers are delighted and privileged to be a part of this exciting concert. Rehearsals are well underway for their choral contribution to the event.

Date:  Sunday, March 10. Time: 2.30pm.
Tickets: $40.  Concession: $35.

Further details will be available in the coming weeks, on the choirs’ and church’s websites.
